Label Swap Brief:

Products: Whittaker's Creamy Milk Chocolate + Sanitarium's Marmite.

A. Choose 2 totally different products (like soup and cleaning fluid). Do not choose no-name brands (like Homebrand, Budget or Signature Brand).
B. Take a clear photograph (2 if necessary) of each of the products (using technical specifications overleaf).
C. Use whatever computer program you wish, to exchange the signifiers of the two labels, such that the label of Product 1 now has the expressive qualities (signifiers like typeface, colours, etc.) of Product 2, and Product 2 the non-verbal signifiers of Product 1. The verbal signifiers (words) on each label must remain and only their form (look & feel) must be altered.
Choose products that have clearly different target markets (male vs female, upmarket vs mass taste, etc.)
Do not swap the contents of the packaging (ie. do not suggest by your label that the box that used to contain soap powder now contains perfume—liquid in a box that is obviously for powder will overshadow and confuse the semiotic treatments). Consider your packaging carefully—it is better not to choose a product where the package shape itself contains a great deal of semiotic information.
D. After the redesigned labels have been affixed to the products, re-photograph products (1 shot of each if possible, 2 if necessary) using the same specifications (overleaf). Save digital files as high quality JPEGs (their file size (command-i) should be about 200k) and upload to the space provided.
